About 139km (86 miles) East of Montevideo, Uruguay, lies the exclusive resort town of Punta del Este. The narrow peninsula of Punta del Este marks the official transition from the Rio de la Plata to the Atlantic Ocean. The surrounding area contians beautiful beachfront, forests of eucalyptus, pine and mimosa, and luxury hotels and apartments.

Besides the areas best bathing beaches, Punta touts a tranquil winter/fall and a much more active spring/summer with crowds of elite Argentines and Brazilians, as well as many Europeans. The Playa Mansa (calm beach) is located on the Western side of the peninsula, the sought after beaches of the neighborhood. While, the Playa Brava (the ocean side) has stronger winds and heavier surf, with a sublime view of the sunrise.
